Chief Executive of Kent and Medway ICB Visits Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend
The Chief Executive of the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) Adam Doyle recently visited Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend and the Guru Nanak Well Being Centre to learn more about the important role the Gurdwara plays in supporting local communities and improving health and wellbeing.
The visit was arranged and led by Gurvinder Sandher, Chief Executive of Kent Equality Cohesion Council and also a non-executive director of the ICB. During the visit, discussions focused on community engagement, health inequalities, and the importance of delivering services in trusted and culturally appropriate settings.
The Chief Executive described the visit as “really helpful” and praised the Gurdwara as a “fantastic building and wellbeing centre” that is delivering health services in a trusted local community environment.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the experiences of Sikh communities when accessing NHS services and how healthcare organisations can better support communities facing health inequalities.
CEO of Kent Equality Cohesion Council Gurvinder Sandher MBE DL said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome the Chief Executive to Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara and alongside community colleagues showcase the incredible work being carried out to support the wider community. Faith and community organisations have a vital role to play in helping tackle health inequalities, building trust, and ensuring services are accessible to everyone. Strong partnerships between communities and the NHS are essential in improving health outcomes across Kent and Medway.”
The visit highlighted the continuing importance of partnership working between health organisations, community groups, and faith institutions in creating more inclusive and accessible healthcare services for all communities.
